Char-Griller E16620 Akorn Kamado FAQ

Problem: Smoking meat is a delicious and popular way to cook, but it can be tricky to get the temperature just right.

Smoking meat is a great way to cook, but if you’re not an expert it can be tough to get the temperature just right. This can lead to your meat being undercooked or overcooked.

Solution: The Char-Griller Akorn Kamado smoker is the answer. This smoker has a built-in thermometer that ensures your meat is cooked perfectly every time. The Akorn Kamado smoker also has adjustable vents that allow you to control the airflow, so you can select the perfect temperature for your meat.

Problem: I love the idea of this grill, but I'm worried about using an electric starter.

Using an electric starter can be intimidating, but it’s really not that hard. Plus, you don’t have to use a long, straight one – any large electric starter will work.

Solution: Char-Griller’s Akorn Kamado is a great grill that you don’t want to miss out on because of your fear of using an electric starter. Get a short electric starter if you need electricity and be ready to start grilling in no time!

Problem: You love the taste of grilled food, but you're worried about using your grill on a wood deck.

Grilling on a wood deck can be dangerous- it’s easy to start a fire if you’re not careful.

Solution: The Char-Griller E16620 Akorn Kamado Grill is the perfect solution for grilling on a wood deck. This grill is made from high-quality materials and has been designed with safety in mind. With its insulated construction, this grill is safe to use on any surface, if the grill is installed 15 feet from any combustible material.

Okay, guys. I have a feeling I know exactly where this came from.

I’m in my garage and the package just arrived today, but – what is it? It looks so familiar…ah yes. That must be an Akorn Kamado grill or one of their clone models anyway; they make great grills for BBQing out on your deck (or anywhere really). And also I bought the lump charcoal in Mesquite.

Char-Griller E16620 Akorn Kamado Charcoal Grill

It’s still a little rainy outside, but not too bad. I think we’ll be able to get this done in the garage without any problems! And we’re gonna put it together in here. We’ll show you how easy it is and then we’re gonna take it out in the backyard and we’re gonna cook something today.

What’s in this little box? That was the question I had when it arrived. Well, that’s what you’ll find inside – a charcoal starter! The first box is designed to be opened by pulling on its handle, but it has such an innovative design that once you release your grip on the bottom of this container open up and let go there’s no turning back! Well, we’re all curious about what’s in box number two. And I don’t want to disappoint any of you so let me open it up and find out.

Looking at this awesome grill, I can’t help but feel excited. It has everything that’s needed for cooking meat and vegetables. And the Char-Griller adjustable fire is a great feature that lets you lower the temperature if need be. I can get closer to my heat with this setting, which will allow me to make sure everything’s cooked perfectly!

Char-Griller E16620 Akorn Kamado Charcoal Grill 2

What kind of cooking equipment do you have?

I’ve never had a rib rack and I probably have it upside down. Okay, the good news is that’s upright for ribs. And look at this – You can flip it over to roast meats as well if needed (like when we’re done with our prime). Got one primary already waiting on its next turn in heat.

Just got the adjustable fit apron from Char-Griller, also in box number two is a premium grill cover. I’ll show you that once we put it together and make sure it’s nice outside on my back deck so all of y’all can see how beautiful this thing really looks. In addition to being delivered intestine today (I’m not kidding), there were three more packages with different stones inside – one was even for Pizza Stone lovers like me who want their pizzas just right.

This time around however instead of taking out any products yet again before doing an episode about them individually.

And there it is, the smoking stone. If you look at what’s gonna happen to your eggcorn in this oven-toaster? It just prevents direct heat from causing burning and leads us into convection cooking which turns out perfectly cooked eggs every time.

Char-Griller E16620 Akorn Kamado Charcoal Grill 3

Well, I open up the big boy here. It’s all out of its box now and ready for assembly! There are many tools that are not included in this kit but luckily you have a screwdriver handle with an integrated socket at either end to help assemble everything quickly- which they call nut driver because it really does drive screws when using Phillips head or Slotted screws depending on what type is needed most often from time to time. Well let me tell ya something: there’s no need for any confusion whatsoever since these familiar names should make sense without too much trouble already after looking through them closely during our first pass over these parts lists so pay attention.

Okay, guys. I have the legs and bottom of your grill pieces on now so that’s easy stuff right there! Next up is wheeling this into our backyard for me to set up properly before we put some more shelves in place- which will make everything easier when cooking large meals or doing parties at home with friends over since they can all fit around one table instead of being scattered across two tables like before.

The process does take some time but not necessarily alone because having another person helping hold things steady while you drive screws makes getting those tough spots done much faster.

Check it out, we’re almost done with this project.

Char-Griller E16620 Akorn Kamado Charcoal Grill 4

What you see here is a fully assembled BBQ

All of the cooking racks, fire bowl, and warming rack are put together with just 1 hour and 45 minutes worth. There’s a thermostat right there.

Char-Griller E16620 Akorn Kamado Charcoal Grill 5

My chimney is the same size as that center hole. I’m guessing that that center hole is removable so that I can, I can pull that out and just drop my Kohls in there.

The first thing I’m going to do is start a fire. All right, it’s all open now so let me just dump some of this wood in here and put the stone on top for redirected heat while smoking inside with my grill. When filming for our show, I have it set up on this glass table. But once the lighting is done and everything has been prepared accordingly (the fire needs some time) then you’ll see me place my grill onto a hard surface below so as not to melt any part of its frame with all that heat.

Here’s the chimney starter. I’ve got newspaper down below and my lump charcoal right there to get it started, we’re going all right! Let’s light up those logs before they go out on us.

So starting to smoke

That’s a good sign! Let me see if we can’t get this baby going and warn the neighborhood, cuz it will be an all-out firestorm on my whole deck full of dense white clouds soon enough.

Char-Griller E16620 Akorn Kamado Charcoal Grill 6

I’m waiting for that to do its thing.

I am going to let the grill continue burning so we can get a good amount of smoke on our food before putting it down in six minutes.

I’m so excited! I just got my smoker stone, char griller, egg, and corn smokers. They are going to be perfect for smoking all sorts of things. You can see three spots to rest it in, we’re gonna set that grill soon. Make sure you got your hot hands and gloves on.

When you set this grill over the hot spots, it won’t burn you because there are no direct contact points.

All right let’s bring out our flame and get ready to go.

Char-Griller E16620 Akorn Kamado Charcoal Grill 7

Now we have our stone placed in the niche. The vents must be open just enough for air circulation but not too much so that there is a draft on either side of it or directly above where you will set your cornerstone once all has been completed.

Char-Griller E16620 Akorn Kamado Charcoal Grill 8

The temperature is nothing yet. We’re going to heat this up and I have the latch closed on it, but you can open that vent for me if needed! It’s been a little bit bendier lately so all right there we go. I got ahold of 250 so I’m going to start cooking it. Even while watching the temperature and playing with vents a little bit more, get used to where your meat needs are but don’t forget about yourself either; keep in mind that you should still take breaks for drinks or food.

I was honest with you all. For about an hour, I wrestled with eggcorn. We had to work together and struggle with the temperature before we got it just right. The thing about the sweet spot is that it’s unlike any other. If you’ve done wood pellets before, this will be completely different and totally cool! It feels like an adventure in itself – I can’t wait to see how my pieces turn out when they’re finished with these new hands-on techniques.

We’re going to peek at the meat now. Here we go! Gonna open up that latch, man. It’s been 250 degrees Fahrenheit since before I started cooking so figures right?

Char-Griller E16620 Akorn Kamado Charcoal Grill 9

Here it comes, the best part! The smell of cooking meat is filling up my nose. I can’t wait any longer because this thing feels like it’s about to come apart into pieces or something equally as exhilarating – either way, you slice it sounds great for me at least so far-and there’s no denying that when food tastes good.

Hm…I wonder if I am wrong. Hang on a minute!

That’s perfect. As soon I put this on the C board, it’s just gonna fall apart! You can tell by how soft and pliable these boards are- they’re not built for longevity at all. All right boys, thanks for watching my show today – you’ve made me hungry already.

Kamados are proper pronunciation though maybe still a little hard to say sometimes. I’ll get used to them eventually since there is nothing more beautiful than an amazing BBQ pit after all! See ya later!

Problem: Buying a grill is a big investment, and you want to make sure you're getting the right that is a self-fed one.

There are so many different grills on the market, that it can be hard to decide which one is right for you. Do you need a gas grill, or would a charcoal grill be better? What about smoker grills?

Solution: The Traeger Pro Series 22 is the perfect grill for anyone who wants the best of all worlds. Problem: I know that Traeger Grills are the best on the market, but I don't know how they work.

A lot of people are hesitant to buy a Traeger Grill because they don’t understand how it works. They think that you have to chop wood and carry it to the grill, or that you have to be a barbecue master to use one.

Solution: Traeger Grills are not like other grills. You don’t need any charcoal or gas, and there are no flare-ups or smoke. All you need is the pellets, which we provide with every purchase. The Pro Series 22 uses an automatic auger system that feeds pellets into the firebox, so all you need to do is set it and forget it.

Problem: You're probably asking yourself, what gauge extension cord can I use with my Traeger grill?

Most people are surprised to learn that not all extension cords are created equal. In fact, using the wrong extension cord with your Traeger grill can be a fire hazard.

Solution: Use a 10 Gauge extension cord for optimal performance and safety.

Myks Garage is back with another great video. This time, we’re taking a look at the Traeger Grills Pro Series 22 meat smoker from high-end grill manufacturer.

Traeger Grills Pro Series 22

Whoa! I just picked up a Traeger grill from Amazon and it’s the Pro Series 22. There are several different sizes for these grills, which makes them really versatile if you’re looking to cook something different each time.

My buddy has the same model and he said that this is more than enough for his family’s needs. So I figured it would be a good idea to get one of these instead of trying something new.

The grill is the perfect size for your needs.

There are bigger grills, there are a couple of smaller ones too, like a 20 series. I thought this would be fine with what I need but we’ll see how it fits when given more information on where you want to use them and other factors involved in choosing such an appliance.

But again, I pick it up off of Amazon really they’re the same price. Wherever you get ’em it comes with a lot of packing material packaged well and everything is accounted for.

With the legs I have to put on, this is a very practical and stable grill. There are even some handles so you can cook with both hands or use them as leverage while standing up.

This one comes with two probes, not the white ones. If I enabled one, this one just has the probes.

The pellets are just a signature series, so you can throw them away once they get filled up. And then there are the trays that keep your catch-all from getting too messy. You also get these bucket liners to put in it for extra drip protection when needed – no need to worry about spilling anything thanks again conveniently sized storage container.

Well, I’m excited to get started on this. It’s my first Traeger Grill and it has been a long time since we’ve had one. My old grill kind of went out after 12 years of use so now was just a need for something newer. We also wanted some great reviews too from friends who have used the grill already or know someone else personally has good experiences with this brand.

Traeger Grills Pro Series 22 - 2

Guys, I’ve got the grill assembled almost perfectly

Just need to put this interior piece in and then we’ll be all set up! This is like a drip tray liner that sits on top of it; my work here includes installing those as well.

That’s it. The assembly was pretty straightforward. I did it by myself. It’s really not that hard to put this thing together. All you have to do is to lay it down and then flip it over, screwing in different bolts for holding on its legs so they’re securely fastened at each end of your support base.

This is the handle. The smokestack got all that on.

All right, I’m going to take it outside and put in some pellets so that when we’re done here today our food will be cooked just the way you like.

Traeger Grills Pro Series 22 - 3

I’m going through the manual, and I’ll be able to follow along with what we’re doing in just a few moments. And I’m just reading about the grills’ startup instructions. There are a few things you need to do before we can get started here.

Off we go. The next step is to take all this metal guard and other pieces out of the grill, then plug it in with a switch turned on “smoke.” Let’s get started.

Here I am checking to make sure the auger is working properly. You can see it moving slowly there, and then shooting out air through this hole here which helps keep things cool as well.

When I am finished filling up the grill, it should look something like this.

After checking those two things and making sure that everything’s working well in order to start shutting down the cycle properly – now we just need a little more time before turning off our smoker.

Traeger Grills Pro Series 22 - 4

Well, with this many pellets in here. It will take a while to fill it up twice. But don’t worry. You can store them dry and safe for later use if needed.

All right, now that we have pellets inside us and you’re turning up the heat all way over here to a high setting.  It’s important for this process not only to be done slowly but also careful so as not to burn anything or ourselves in case there are some tricky areas around.

The pellets start falling into the firepot, we throttle down the temperature and go to the shut-down cycle. Once everything is cool enough for smoking again; turn on the heat source with renewed intensity. What’s that? I can see smoking coming from down there! The auger is moving slowly and steadily.

Traeger Grills Pro Series 22 - 5

The fire pot is now smoking lightly

You can see the pellets inside starting to smoke as well, and in order for this process to continue, it’s necessary that you turn down your heat setting from a high-medium to a low, and shut down the cycle. With the pellets in still inside of your fire pot, it is time to turn it into ‘smoke’. When the flames start coming out of your firepot, you’ll know it is time to shut down and switch off. Letting go will allow for a cool-down. Then we put all of our pieces back in.

So let’s see if they can make flames come outta the firepot here. That’s what we’re waiting for, right?

Traeger Grills Pro Series 22 - 6

Okay, with our flames coming outta the firepot. Now we’re going to move it shut down cycle and let cool off so that you can put all your equipment back in when ready. And we’re not done yet. We have a few more procedures to do after this is all cooled down, but I think you’ll agree that it’s better than before. About 20 minutes from now should pretty much cool over nicely.

Keep it open. The pellets of compressed wood should ignite after two minutes, and we’ll close the door. After they do just turn on your cooking setting before using it for the first time.

Before we can use our new outdoor grill, it needs to be seasoned. Set the temperature dial on high and let smoke for 45 minutes with the door shut. So, we’ll wait until the smoker has started smoking, then we will shut it off and let it sit for 45 minutes.

Traeger Grills Pro Series 22 - 7

We’re just getting started and we have some really great content coming your way. So stay tuned for more information on how to smoke the meat, and seasonings that will give it a unique flavor you won’t be able to bite into anywhere else.

Types of smoker BBQ grill combos

There are three main types of smoker grill combos: electric, charcoal, and propane.

Types of smoker grill combos

  • Electric smoker grill combos use electricity to heat the smoker box, which means they’re easy to use and maintain a consistent temperature.
  • Charcoal smoker grill combos use charcoal as their fuel source, which gives them a smokier flavor but can be more difficult to control the temperature.
  • Propane smoker grill combos use propane gas as their fuel source, which is the most expensive option but also the easiest to control the temperature.

The best way to use your smoker grill combo for maximum flavor

Here are a few tips to get the most out of your smoker grill combo:

  1. Use hardwood or charcoal for fuel. This will give your food a smoky flavor.
  2. Soak your wood chips in water for 30 minutes before using them. This will help them produce more smoke.
  3. Place the food on the top rack of the smoker, closest to the heat source. This will help it cook evenly.
  4. Check the temperature of the smoker frequently. The ideal temperature for smoking meat is between 225 and 250 degrees Fahrenheit.

How to clean and maintain your smoker grill combo?

– Clean the grates after each use. This will prevent them from rusting.
– Empty the ashtray after each use. This will keep the smoker clean and free of debris.
– Cover the smoker when not in use. This will protect it from the elements and extend its lifespan.
